Be strong and courageous

In one of those God determined happenings I started reading Joshua 1 the other morning and then discovered in the evening in our Bible readings as a couple that we were reading through Joshua 1 too. What struck me in both was the repetition of the little phrase or command to Joshua "Be strong and courageous", twice God tells him to lead like that because he is with him as he was with Moses. Then at the end of the chapter the officers of the people repeat that phrase to Joshua as they commit to following his leadership under God.

It made me think; is that an expectation we have of our leaders, do we expect leaders to be strong and courageous, to boldly go? How do we react to courageous leadership which may at times seem risky? Am I bold and courageous in my leadership? Are we bold enough in our discipleship?
