So many to choose so little time

I set myself the goal last week of picking 12 memory verses for our Sunday School to learn from this September onwards at the rate of one a month for the year.  I realised it was an ambitious project but not quite how hard it would be to choose 12 memory verses.  So instead I've gone for 24 and a two year programme, they are below.  I'd love to know your thoughts on any other key memeory verses I have missed out!

Memory Verses for Sunday School

1.       Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid”

2.       Prov 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

3.       Isaiah 53v5-6 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.”

4.       Isaiah 55v6-7 “Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways
and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”

5.       Ezekiel 36:26 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

6.       Daniel 6:26-27 “For he is the living God
and he endures forever;
his kingdom will not be destroyed,
his dominion will never end.
He rescues and he saves;
he performs signs and wonders
in the heavens and on the earth.”

7.       Matt 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

8.       Matt 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.  When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”

9.       Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

10.   Luke 10:27 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” and “Love your neighbour as yourself”.

11.   Luke 6:45“Good people bring good things out of the good stored up in their hearts, and evil people bring evil things out of the evil stored up in their heart.  For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.”

12.   Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost.”

13.   Luke 24:27 “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”

14.   John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

15.   John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

16.   John 14:6 “Jesus answered: “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No-one comes to the Father except through me.”

17.   Rom 1:17 “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed – a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”

18.   Rom 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

19.   Rom 8:1-2 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,”

20.   2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here”

21.   Galatians 3:24-25 “So the law was put in charge of us until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.  Now faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.”

22.   Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active.  Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

23.   1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring you to God.  He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.”

24.   1 John 4:10 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
