It seems the hardest thing to do. To reach men with the gospel. Churches naturally have opportunities to build relationships with mums through toddler groups or through personal contact at the school gates, and I wonder if ladies aren't simply more relational intuitively. But we find it much harder with their partners.
For example the Uncover group we are running at the minute is for four of the mums from toddlers which is exciting and we are praying they will go back and discuss what they are talking about with their partners. But the reality is that we feel one step removed in that process. So how do we as churches reach men?
In our area there is no pub where you will find the men sat talking or watching sport. There is no communal gathering point. So again how do we get contact with men? We are trying something which is shows some signs of building relationships with dads. We run a football club at school on a Monday after school, and it is often the dads that come and pick up their boys (it is all boys though it is open to girls). Obviously we look to chat to the dads as they pick their boys up. But the next stage is a Saturday dad v lads game in which the kids will show off their skills against their dads, hopefully we can have a BBQ or some sort of food afterwards too. It is small, it is slow, and it requires us to stay focused on building relationships rather than running an event. But we have to reach men with the gospel too.
