Acts 3

In Acts 3 we see a man healed through Peter and John in a way reminiscent of Jesus.  That should't surprise us because Jesus is at work through his Apostles by his Spirit.  As Peter and John go to the temple they see the beggar and they make clear to him that they in and of themselves have nothing to give him.  "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."  Peter is very clear in what he says that it is Jesus who is working, Jesus who heals.

It's no wonder that yet again a crowd gathers wanting to know what is going on.  Peter again sees it as a Spirit given opportunity to preach the gospel.  And again he is quick to stress his inability v12 "People of Israel, why does this surprise you?  Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we have made this man walk?  The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of your fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus."  And to point to Jesus.  To remind them of who Jesus was, to push for conviction of sin and belief in a risen reigning alive and active Jesus Christ.

The Spirit filled fireworks of the languages of Pentecost are not repeated but the Spirit filled, empowered Apostles are continuing the work.  Their default mode is to offer the gospel to those who will listen.  To take any opportunity to tell others about Jesus and call them to repent.

We have the same Spirit and our call is to be alive to opportunities to tell about Jesus that we are given by the Spirit.  We like Peter preach Jesus.
