We are trying something new this evening, its not radical, its not 'never been done' before new, but it is new for us. We are going to do Lighthouse at one venue instead of two and include the children rather than doing it after bedtime. We will meet together for a meal (soup and roll provided) in a home before the children simply play together, supervised of course, whilst the adults pray, read teh bible, listen to it taught, raise questions, and encourage one another in love in small groups as they work on application together.
Why the change? Lots of reasons; doing two talks half an hours drive apart was exhausting for the preacher, having two distinct groups was not great for gospel unity and friendship, change stops us becoming insular and gives us opportunity to get to know others. But also long term - children as they grow into teenagers and young adults need friends and we want to give them as much opportunity to grow friendships as possible, so that they have a strong core of friends who share a gospel upbringing.
It will probably be fairly noisy, chaotic, messy and fun! Just as I think church probably was in teh New Testament.
