The Gospel and personal Evangelism

Finished reading this excellent book by Mark Dever. This biggest challenge I will take away from it is the need to be engaging with those in the world around us, something backed up by looking at Luke 15:1-10 yesterday in church. God is a lost seeking God, Jesus is a lost seeking saviour, his people must be lost seeking people.

Dever encourages us and refreshes us not with a methodology or how to but with examining the reasons why we fail to engage in evangelism, and how and why we must engage in evangelism. I found his appendix to Pastors particularly helpful in the encouragement to get out of the office and meetings and engage in evangelism.

It reminded me of an illustration I read of a couple of years ago. Are you a lizard or a frog? As a church worker it is easy to be a frog, sitting on your pad waiting for the fly to come to you. What we actually need to be is a lizard out looking for food.
